A tribute to Dennis Horner

It is with great sadness that I have to report that, after a short illness, Dennis Horner has died. For many years Dennis played a very active part in SAM activities as an Observer, Committee member and helping with the printing of the SAM monthly magazine. In recent years he rode out less frequently with the Thursday Riders, but always had a keen interest in developments within the club and the riding adventures of its members.

Dennis was born in January 1947 and lived and worked in Rotherham all his life.  In 1982, with his brother Trevor, he set up Sprint publishing in a converted chapel in Harley. This business successfully developed into the Horner Brothers Print Group Limited, Templeborough, Rotherham. When traditional industries, such as coal mining and steel making, declined they employed and re-trained a lot of  the workers. The brothers highly valuing the practical mindedness and loyalty of these workers. They also constantly invested in and developed their business to meet the changing demands of businesses for stationary and information processing services.

All SAM members who wish to pay their respects are invited to attend the funeral at 12.30pm on the 18th  January 2019, at Rotherham Crematorium. On behalf of all club members, the SAM Committee send our sincere and heartfelt condolences to Dennis’s family at this very sad time.
