This just got REAL!!!
Just a recap, after the last round at Brand Hatch I was approached by the team manager of Astro JJR if to see if I could assist the team in the 2020 season as he wanted to run 2 riders. I obviously jumped at the opportunity.
For the 2020 season we are running in the ultra-competitive SuperStock 1000 series with 2 BMW 1000RR and 2 riders from New Zealand, Shane Richardson #28 and Damon Rees #92. In addition, we will also have Caolon Irwin #4 running under our banner in the stock 600. One of the main sponsors this year is the antipodean DJ Carl Cox. Those that follow racing he’s recently helped out Michael Dunlop and the Birchall’s sidecar outfit at the TT.
It’s been a long winter since then but as of Friday the 7th August we are on the grid for the 1st round at Donington Park. Unfortunately at this stage, we do not know whether or not spectators will be allowed in but we understand that if they are there’s no access to paddock for the general public which is a great shame, but it cannot last forever.
Over the last few month’s, we have managed to get 4 track days which were all quite successful. The lads used to the bikes and the team gelled on what to do and when.
The series is normally live on Eurosport as part of the BSB races but sometimes the timing is either too early or too late for live TV but they are always shown the following week in the BSB Support program.
Once we get the ok for spectators it would be great to see a few friendly faces call into our awning as the kettle is always on!
I Hoping that I can keep you all up to date on the progress with a round by round report and other information can be accessed via our AstoJJR Facebook page which has instant updates and clips of the boys out on the track.
That’s about it for now and hope to catch up with you all once the COVID-19 situation has improved.
Steve Grundy (Mr Benelli)
