Your biking health & fitness

Motorcycling is about the rider, the bike and the journey. You are in charge of all three, so it’s helpful to start off by being fit to ride. Any loss of fitness is going to impair your ability to keep yourself safe whilst riding. Your riding ability can be affected by alcohol, drugs, illness, tiredness or inattention. Here are some ways to give yourself a safer ride.

  • Don’t ride whilst tired and don’t ride so long that you get tired and lose concentration.
  • Do stop regularly, stretch, stay hydrated, limit coffee/tea and drink plenty of water.
  • Don’t ride if your medication stops you from riding well. 
  • Do read the patient information leaflets, learn to recognise any side effects and remember that drugs, both legal and illegal, act on your body over time.
