SAM Club Newsletter – 16th December 2022

Editorial

The SAM Club was very sad to hear the news that our, very dedicated, IAM RoadSmart Regional Service Delivery Team manager, Peter Serhatlic, had died suddenly.  Many SAM Club members will not be aware of the vital role he played in coordinating and directing IAM RoadSmart services in our region. Our deepest condolences go to Peter’s family at this very sad time for them. On behalf of the SAM Club, Chairman, Steve Brown, is sending our sympathy and thoughts to Peter’s wife and family.

In your SAM Club newsletter this week you can read about how, in a recent three month period, 200,000 motorcycles and scooters in Paris were issued with parking fines. Motorcycles and scooters in the city had free parking and now have to pay €3/hour. The stated aim of the parking charges is to reduce pollution and encourage the use of electric vehicles. It seems there is some way to go before French bikers will part with their hard earned money.

In other news you can look to the future with a guide to women’s motorcycle clothing. Also, take a look at how motorcycle design might change in the next 12 years, i.e. before we all have to disappear up our own exhaust pipes in 2035. There is an interesting article on how the UK strikes might affect UK motorcyclists.

If you just want to get away and leave all the UK trouble and strife behind, why not consider a solo ride on the TransAmerica Trail. Fancy going a bit further? Try riding in the oxygen-thin roads of Nepal. Even if you don’t go travelling, it’s really great to read about how it might be done and imagine that you’re riding those two wheels. If you are riding out, there is some great advice on how to ride in snow and icy conditions. Happy reading.
