Sheffield Advanced Motorcyclists - Santa Bikers Run @ Piddock Motorcycles

Editorial

Now Christmas is over and unseasonably warm weather has arrived, it’s time to think about what to do in ‘22. There are no guarantees in a riding life but we can all dream about what we would like to be doing. So, what’s your dream for yourself, your family, your biking and your Club? Send us an email to let us know what you are wishing for in the next 12 months. We’ll share it, anonymously, with all our SAM Club friends and supporters. One thing you can look forward to is the Annual SAM Photo Competition. Send your entries to sam-editor@iam-sheffield.bike. The winner will be announced at the SAM AGM in April.

This week the digest of news shows you that the annual tradition of biker’s dressing up in Santa outfits continues uninterrupted by a small thing like a pandemic! There’s a story about the helmet-fitted stop/indicator light accessory along with a warning that they are illegal on any new helmet. Along with all other helmet accessories, including communication devices, that are not fitted and tested by an approved manufacturer.

Ducati have brought out their first electric racing bike. If it’s as good as their fossil-fueled bikes we can expect some great racing excitement. How do you control your bike in a skid? How do you perform a crash-free u-turn? If you already know you still might want to read another opinion.

You’ll read about the blind biker who bought a bike so that his friends could take him for a ride on it. No insurance company would offer cover. But the story does have a happy ending. You can read about the latest social media craze of putting fairy lights on your car, taking photos and putting them on social media. It’s illegal, so the police have prima facie evidence to pursue a motoring conviction. Finally, Mental Health Motobike have got a little anxious about Peppa Pig. There’s lots more to read too.

Anyone interested in SAM activities can find them, including the SAM and Survival Skills newsletters, on the SAM website. SAM Club members can find all the latest Club events on the website’s Calendar. Read, enjoy and share your Club’s newsletter with ALL your friends and family. Until next week…

Happy New Year everyone. The SAM Committee wishes you all happiness and  prosperity in 2022. Stay healthy and ride safe, Ed.
