SAM Members Monthly Update

Sheffield Advanced Motorcyclists - 'where your riding just gets better!'

A Very Happy New Year to ALL SAM members, their family and friends!

Summary
At the start of each new year, it’s a time to renew our vision of what exciting SAM club activities the next 12 months will bring. Well, there is the Annual Photo Competition, the AGM, Spring and Autumn Breakfasts, Chairman’s Ride Out, discounted Track Days, Club nights and speakers, Saturday meetings and anything else that we can cram into the schedule. On your behalf, SAM is currently running a Winter Discount Offer and a Special Offer (see the SAM website for details). We are looking to attract more local bikers from our region to take up the IAM RoadSmart advanced riding course. You can stay up to date with all SAM events and activities here on the SAM website.

SAM News

  • New SAM Website: There have been a few teething problems with the SAM Club website content but most of these have been fixed now. If you spot anything that needs changing let us know either via the SAM website contact forms or by emailing the SAM Editor.
  • Advanced Rider Course Discounts: The SAM Committee agreed to promote a series of discounts to encourage more bikers to take the advanced rider course. There are discounts for all bikers. There are more generous discounts for under 25-year-old bikers. We are also offering two under 25-years-old bikers a chance to get their advanced course for FREE. See the SAM website for more details. Please share these offers with ALL your friends to get the best response we can get. Thank you.
  • SAM Annual Photo Competition: It’s that time of year again when we open entries for the SAM Annual Photo Competition. We are a little late this year but send your fabulous photos to the SAM Editor. As time is short, as in previous years the competition will be judged by an independent judge. The closing date will be midnight on the 7th March 2020. Subjects must include motorcycling related images. As usual, the winner will be announced at the SAM AGM and be presented with a beautifully framed print of their photo.
  • Annual General Meeting: This is an early notice that the SAM Club AGM will be held on the 6th April 2020 at Treeton Miners Welfare Club Arundel Street Treeton Rotherham S60 5PW. Nomination papers and an agenda will be published shortly.
  • SAM Committee Succession Planning: The SAM Committee is required to plan for the replacement of its members. Committee membership is an interesting and very rewarding role within the SAM Club. It gives you the chance to influence the future direction and activities of the club and learn about our role as an IAM RoadSmart Group. As a member of the SAM Committee, you will also become a Trustee of the SAM charity. Details of the legal responsibilities, duties and liabilities of a charity Trustee can be found on the SAM website. If you are interested in taking a greater role in the SAM Club contact Steve Brown (Chairman) to discuss your interest further.
  • Chairman’s Ride Out: The 2020 Chairman’s Ride Out will take place on the 1st June 2020 in place of the normal monthly SAM Club Night.
  • Discounted Track Days: There is another full year of discounted track days for SAM members at the British Superbike School. SAM member prices are given on application. The following dates are available:
    • 30th April
    • 28th May
    • 25th June
    • 30th July
    • 27th August
    • 24th September
    • for a SAM organised track day contact Tony Thompson to express your interest.
  • See the SAM website for details of all other SAM activities and events.
  • Trouble with Google Search: We’re having a few problems with the listing of the SAM Club on Google Search. Hopefully, it will be fixed shortly but in the meantime let people know they can contact us via the SAM website. UPDATE: This problem arose due to an error on the new SAM website and has now been resolved. Thank you for your patience.
  • Is YOUR Biker I.C.E. Card Up-To-Date?: Health, healthcare and social circumstances change over time, so it’s really important that you keep your FREE Biker I.C.E. Card up-to-date. Mine has changed several times this year and it’s easy to update the pdf file. Especially now that there is more room for medication and contacts. Check your Biker I.C.E. now and see if it has everything that is needed.
  • Stay in touch: Some SAM members are still having a really hard time with ill health. All have told us that, in spite of their ill health, they want their SAM friends to stay in touch and share their adventures. So, why not phone and arrange to visit someone who is having a bit of a hard time. After all, laughter is the best medicine ~ and much better when shared with friends.
