What’s the catch?

There is none. This library is an innovative project from Sheffield Advanced Motorcyclists (SAM). Our aim is to help our charity be more effective in serving our community and the wider world. We looked in detail at our role and decided that we needed to provide more supportive educational resources,. There are educational resources for the SAM Committee, Observers, Associates, Members and the general public.  These will help to run our charity effectively for the benefit of everyone.

There is no charge for using this library or its contents. As a charity we have no intention of profiting from keeping riders safer on our roads. Every penny of our income is used to meet our charitable objects. We have no paid employees and our volunteers are self-funding to keep their bikes in a safe and legal condition for riding; and, pay for their own running costs when providing advanced rider training. However, we would be very grateful, if you could make a donation to help support us. You can make donations via our Just Giving page. ALL funds go directly to meeting our operating costs. ALL our members are UNPAID VOLUNTEERS. We volunteer to help make safer riders because of our love of riding and desire to help others. ALL our Observer coaches self-fund their costs out of their own pockets, just to help motorcyclists become an advanced riders. This includes helping to ordinary bikers, train NHS Blood Bikers and Community Dispatch Riders. All our members pay a membership fee, any IAM RoadSmart charges and maintaining their own vehicles. In these hard economic times their dedication and sacrifice is humbling.

Who is it for?

The SAM charity is affiliated to IAM RoadSmart for the purpose of providing advanced rider training to qualified motorcycle riders, i.e. those who have passed a UK national motorcycle test. This training is always to quality assured national standards and fully covered by public liability insurance. We have a large team of Observers who coach a range of riders, who come from a diverse riding backgrounds, educational and learning ability. In the section links below there are articles, guides, presentations, videos, cheat sheets, quizzes and more.

SAM is making all our educational resources available on an Open Source BY-NC-ND licence. See our Sheffield Advanced Motorcyclists Copyright Notice on using the content.
