SAM Weekly Newsletter – 15th April 2022

Sheffield Advanced Motorcyclists - Annual Photo Competition 2022

Editorial

After telling everyone that I didn’t have COVID, now I do! A trip to the RHH for 2 hours in the care of 3 nurses and a doctor, has left me a little under the weather. However, your SAM Newsletter is here! In this week’s digest there are recall notices on Yamaha MT-09, MT-09 SP, Tracer 9 and Tracer 9 GT bikes. There is quite a serious issue with bikes stalling when changing down and the throttle might not respond normally. The Belgian research group Vias is suggesting that bikers fit into one of eight categories. There was a clear omission because a SAM Club Rider category was not in the list! IAM RoadSmart have shown that 20% of drivers aren’t aware of recent changes to the Highway Code. After a 3 month wait, my new copy arrived in the post last Monday. My pillion is avidly reading it so that she will know when I’m not riding in accordance with the new rules and obligations!

Now the warm weather has arrived, there are some timely tips about safer riding from John Taylor, T/Sergeant for Roads Policing. There are also the usual reminders about biking events taking place within our riding distance. Steve Bennett is still taking donations for his 24-hour charity ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats. There is also a notice of the next SAM Club Night. Finally, as if we haven’t endured enough with persistent COVID, there are quite a few SAM Club members who are having a difficult time with some serious health problems. Everyone in your Club sends you the very best wishes at this difficult time in life. Stay in touch to share more stories about bikes, bikers and biking.

SAM Club members can find all the latest Club events on the website’s Calendar. Read, enjoy and share your Club’s newsletter with ALL your friends and family. Until next week stay healthy and ride safely.
