Steve did it…with 8 minutes to spare

Take one, non-running, Piaggio MP3 400 out of a shed, where it has been resting for two years. Give the bike to SAM Volunteer Observer Steve Bennett. Like magic it is roadworthy and entered into a marathon charity ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats. A total of 1,094 miles to be completed on the longest day of the year, 21st June 2022. The ride took 22 hours 45 minutes, involved 7 fuel stops and 5 ‘Pit Stops’ to check the bike and rider. Of course, that’s not the total distance. You have to add in the distance from home to the start line, the distance from the finish line, via a visit to family, before you get home after the even. An estimated total of 2,079 miles! An epic ride for any biker. A real stress test for any bike. We can only marvel at what is possible when a biker has bike and the determination to succeed. Steve is raising money for Cancer Research UK, in memory of his wife Sam, who died of leukaemia. A total of thirty-seven bikers rode the challenge with 35 finishing. At real testament to the biking community stepping up to support Cancer Reasearch UK. There are many more bikers and their families who followed the event online. A big THANK YOU to all of them from the SAM Club.
